BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as summer takes hold in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.
Tot Trek
Monday, August 8 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will meet with their strollers at the starting line for a leisurely walk along the trails of Lord Stirling Park to enjoy the natural beauty of fall in New Jersey.
Fee is $15 per pair and $8 per additional child.

Boondocks and Back
Tuesday, August 9 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Children ages 7 to 9 will accompany a Naturalist to explore the farthest reaches of the Great Swamp at the Environmental Education
Center, seeking signs of interesting animals and plants.
Fee is $15 per person

Treasures on the Trail
Wednesday, August 10 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Children ages 7 to 9 will hit the trail with a Naturalist on a treasure hunt,
Finding clues and deciphering codes to discover what may be
lurking in the swamp.
Fee is $9 per person.

Afternoon With A Naturalist
Friday, August 12 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will enjoy a nature hike, games, stories, snacks, and creative crafts, all with an environmental theme.
Fee is $25 per person

ADULT & FAMLY PROGRAMS
Whitewater Challenge
Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14
Experienced adult paddlers will head to Deerfield River in Massachusetts
for camping and whitewater kayaking on a Class II river near Charlemont.
Fee is $225 per person

Evening Exploration – NEW!
Thursday, August 11 from 7:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to explore the trails of
the Great Swamp at dusk. Theme of the walk is “Owls.”
Fee is $9 per person.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
