BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder and the beauty of nature as summer winds down in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.
Young Explorers Club – NEW!
Mondays, September 12, 19, 26 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of
nature through outdoor activities to stimulate the five senses.
Fee is $22 per pair and $11 per additional child..

KinderNats – NEW!
Mondays, September 12, 19, 26 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Children ages 5 and 6 who are enrolled in kindergarten will study science
and explore the natural world through games, Naturalist-led activities, and more.
Fee is $18 per person for the 3-day session..

Wee Folk of the Forest – NEW!
Thursday, September 15 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Children ages 4 to 6 will search for clues of gnome life in the swamp to
discover how these woodland dwellers help their animal friends
through the seasons.

A Class All About Dirt!
Thursday, September 15 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will learn all the reasons that dirt is important on a
trip out to the Swamp.

Small Wonders
Friday, September 16 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist to experience
the wonders and colors of the natural world in the Great Swamp.
Theme is “Summer’s End.”
Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

Little Things That Move the Earth – NEW!
Saturday, September 17 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Children ages 7 to 9 will explore the life of the amazing butterfly,
beautifully colored, some laying eggs and dying and others flying
thousands of miles to mate.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS
Delaware and Raritan Canal Paddle
Tuesday, September 13 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Paddlers will enjoy a relaxing trip along the Canal, enjoying the sights and
sounds of this hidden gem of Somerset County.
Fee is $60 per person.

Field Trips for the Fun at Heart - Bronx Zoo
Thursday, September 15 from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Adults will enjoy a child-free Naturalist-led trip to New York’s world famous Bronx Zoo with over 4,000 species on display.
Fee is $50 per adult & $40 per senior.

A Paddling Afternoon
Thursday, September 15 from 2:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Paddlers will join a Naturalist on a trip to some of the best backwaters in New Jersey, untouched by the rush of powerboats.

Passaic Paddle
Sunday, September 18 from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.
Paddlers will enjoy a relaxed trip through the Great Swamp Basin, flowing through floodplain forest and many unique wetland habitats.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
