William Joseph Haines of Doylestown, PA, formerly of Basking Ridge, died on Feb. 10 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 90. Born in Crawfordsville, IN, he graduated from Wabash College there and earned a PhD from the University of Illinois. Dr. Haines had a long career in the pharmaceutical industry with Upjohn Co., Armor Labs, Ortho Pharmaceuticals and Johnson & Johnson International, where he retired as an executive in 1982. He established the William J. and Wilma M. Haines Fund for the study of biochemistry at Wabash College. While living in Basking Ridge, Dr. Haines served on the board of education of Bernards Township, was a member of the Kiwanis and the Masons, and served as an elder for the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. After the death of his wife in 1998, he became a pastoral care volunteer at Doylestown Hospital. Visitation will be from 4pm-7pm on Feb. 19 at Leaver-Cable Funeral Home, Route 202 and Quarry Road (4886 York Road), Buckingham, PA. Services will be at 11am on Feb. 20 at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1680 Aquetong Road, New Hope, PA.
