With the large selection available, it was often hard to make a choice of cookies to bring home from the 21st annual Cookie Walk. The cookie and holiday decoration sale, held on Saturday, benefits the Adult Day Center at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, located in Basking Ridge.

Cookies, cookies everywhere. Leftovers after the sale were to go to the elderly who attend the Adult Day Center.
Caithlyn Costello, 6, of Basking Ridge, has been coming to the event since she was a few months old and her grandmother carried her in her arms.

The 21st annual Cookie Walk event to benefit the Adult Day Center of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills offered 107 different trays of cookies baked by 75 volunteers to buy right in time for the holidays. The cookies were sold at the VNA center on Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge.

In addition to the tasty treats, tables filled with Christmas decorations and ornaments were also available for purchase. The "White Reindeer" table was laid out with gently used holiday items, which sold well, said volunteers Muriel Anderson and Betty Heitmann, both of Basking Ridge. By about 10:30 a.m., Dodie Allers of Basking Ridge had sold all but one of her ornaments, made with bells and ribbons.

Co-chairs Sandy Smith and Marilyn King coordinated the event again, as well as baking cookies. Other volunteers from the Friends of the VNA all were involved.

The two are left with one more task: sending handwritten thank-you notes to the volunteer bakers. Any leftover cookies will be donated to the Adult Day Center, where elderly adults can spend time on a daily basis.
