5K run and walk benefits Community Hope for homeless veterans; picnic held Sat at Somerset Hills YMCA.
As of mid-Saturday afternoon, events at the Somerset Hills YMCA were due to continue at 3 p.m. with a jointly scheduled community picnic and barbecue to celebration the organization's 60th anniversary in this area — and also a 5K run and a walk to benefit Community Hope, a program for homeless veterans.
Registration for the run and walk would be open until the event started, said Andi Williams, spokeswoman for the YMCA.
The morning had started out with Strong Dogs Day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also from 3-6 p.m., the YMCA's 60th anniversary celebration will be celebrated at a grassroots level with a family style picnic, games, giveaways, a bouncy castle and more. The free barbecue, open to all members of the community, will be catered by The Ridge Tavern. Shop-Rite also is contributing food, according to the YMCA.
