It's probably no surprise that Ava's Home Made Ice Cream topped this week's Readers' Choice poll asking where you and your kids like to go in Basking Ridge for your favorite afterschool treat.
After all, Ava's is right next to the Oak Street Elementary School's Henry Street exit. So, out one door, and into the other, especially when the weather is warm.
Still, Ava's can be worth the walk. Last year, when we profiled Ava's for our column on local ice cream shops, we were told that students also walk over from other schools, including Ridge High School and even the William Annin Middle School.
However, Ava's managed to get the most votes — 12, or 38 percent — even though the ice cream shop is not yet open for the season. We dropped off this week's certificate for Readers' Choice next door, at Atelier for Hair which has the same owner.
We also know that there are other favorite spots in town where parents or students and their friends head to after school lets out. Some other places that got votes were Bella's Burger Shack, Dunkin' Donuts in The Hills, the Copper Kettle Deli, Subway, Sweet! and Veneto Trattoria.
And we know there were other places on our list where we've seen you! So even though the poll is closed, you can still tell us in the comments section below where you like to head after school for a snack and what you like to eat there.
Next week's Readers' Choice poll will ask what you consider to be your favorite Italian restaurant in town.
