Bamboo Grille Named Readers' Choice for Best St. Pat's Spot

Close vote for choice of best place close to home to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

On Monday, we asked readers where they think is the best place to go in town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day — especially for those who don't want to drive far or get caught up in a giant crowd, but who still want a fun night out.

The answer, by a hair, was the Bamboo Grille, an always popular gathering spot on Madisonville Road, at the Basking Ridge Country Club.

The restaurant, with a bar and, sometimes, live music, is planning to serve traditional Irish fare of corned beef and cabbage, and corned beef sandwiches on Saturday and Sunday, said John Dourney, general manager at the Bamboo Grille.

The bar also serves Guinness beer on tap, he said. "What else do you need?"

In case you were looking for a little (non-amplified) music, the restaurant expects a Bernardsville bagpiper to show up on Saturday night to provide some Gaelic music for diners, he said.

Other than that, it's just the atmosphere that seems to draw fans to the Bamboo Grille. "Great atmosphere, friendly service. Never disappointed in my entree selection, love the crusted sea scallops! The outdoor patio makes it one of my favorite places to dine in the warmer months," reader Kasey commented on the Bamboo Grille's listing.

The Bamboo Grille received seven votes (28 percent) for top Readers' Choice for St. Patrick's Day, but the Grain House Restaurant, with its genial Coppertop Pub, received six votes (24 percent).

The Red Oak Grille and Ridge Tavern each received five votes (20 percent.)

Next week, we'll be asking readers where they take their children for their favorite sweet treats.
