Dressed as a package of colorful crayons, the Tomaru family of Basking Ridge won the "Best in Show" Grand Prize this past Saturday at Fabricland's Annual Halloween Costume Contest held at the North Plainfield store. The Tomaru family beat out 50 other contestants, and won a $100 gift certificate for the giant fabric store at 855 Route 22.
The costumes are original designs created and sewed by Lynda Tomaru. The brightly colored "crayons" were made with a combination of felt and vinyl. "We had a lot of fun making the costumes," Lynda Tomaru said. "The hardest part was gluing on the Crayola lettering!"
She said the family will use the gift certificate prize to buy fabrics in preparation for their costumes next year. "It was a great experience!"
The Tomaru family, as a box of Crayola Crayons, are from left, Marisa age 5; Dad, Aki; Miya, age 3; Mom, Lynda; and Ellee, age 7.
