The Ridge High School girls basketball team traveled to Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren for a regular season game Tuesday evening. Although seven different Devils scored on the court, Ridge lost 53-34.

IN SHORT
The Warriors came out strong and put Ridge in an early hole, but the plucky Devils came out in the second quarter inspired. Holding Watchung to eight points, Ridge fought back with 14 points of their own, punctuated by 3-pointers from Elana Baurkot and Sam Mahon. That brought the Devils into the half down only 23-20. But it was to be the Warriors' night. They came back from halftime to double up on Ridge—scoring 30 points to Ridge's 14.
DEVIL OF THE GAME
Elena Baurkot, guard —Baurkotwas tough defensively, moved the ball well on point and scored five points in the game. "She shut down their point guard and worked very hard defensively," said Ridge coach Cheryl Stappenbeck.
KEY PERFORMER
Vicky Beneventine, forward—Beneventine was solid on the boards and added eight points for the Devils.

OVERVIEW OF 2012
Coming off of a 2-22 season, Ridge looks to take care of the little things and just keep improving every game. "We need to focus on offense and scoring," said coach Stappenbeck. "I think we are going to give teams something they don't expect," she added.
THEY WILL MISS
Misaki Ishii-The lone senior on the 2011 squad, Ishii is not playing basketball in college.
Maria Langas and Ellexa Thomas did not return.
WHO TO WATCH
Vicky Beneventine-Beneventine is a complete player and ready to step up and lead the team.
