The township's Coakley-Russo Memorial Golf Course sponsored its final tournament of the season on Saturday, under a clear blue sky that made for a perfect day on the golf course. Sixteen players participated in the event, with top prizes going to best team score, longest drive and closest to the pin.

The only imperfection was an occasional gust of wind that created havoc for some players as they watched their long drives blown to the sides of the fairway. The municipal golf course is located at 151 Knollcroft Road, off Valley Road in Lyons.

In the end the team of local golfers Joe Hickey, Joe Ryder, Ed Hogrelius and Ray Babinski took first place with an even par of 35. Two teams tied for second place with a mere one over par. Selection of the winners was decided by a coin toss.

The second-place winning team included John Pawlick,, Peter DeSarno, Chris Ditta and Greg Burt. The third-place team included Kevin Cox, Sr., Kevin McHale, Robert McHale and Kevin McHale Jr. The fourth-place team, with 3-over par, included golfers Suman Wason, Gian Wason, Paul Ngai and Anthony Barbosa.

After the tournament the players were treated to a homestyle lunch provided by Chef Gerald of the Foxhole e Cafe at the nearby Veterans Administration Hospital in Lyons.
