Goger's Letter of Resignation as Schools Superintendent
Letter submitted to Board of Education on Oct. 10.
Editor's Note: The following letter was submitted to Susan Carlsson, president of the Board of Education, at Monday's meeting. It is a letter from Valerie Goger, superintendent of schools since 1998, officially announcing her notice of retirement as of the end of this school year. Assistant Superintendent Regina Rudolph, who has filled that position for 13 years, also announced her retirement, effective at the same time.
Dear Ms. Carlsson:
It is with mixed feelings that I tender my official notice of retirement, effective June 30, 2012. While I look forward to realizing many of my personal goals during the next chapter in my life, serving as superintendent of Bernards Township for more than thirteen years has been my proudest professional achievement.
Over the years, I have had the good fortune to work with so many wonderful Board members who provide the leadership and resources necessary to support the entire school program and ensure the continued advancement of the District. These elected volunteers always come to the table with passion and enthusiasm.
Educational excellence in the Bernards Township school district begins with our faculty. Student success is a credit to the high standards set by our teachers; a group I rank with the best in New Jersey. They are talented, creative educators who consistently maintain the students at the center of their focus. Student academic achievement and extracurricular participation are at the highest levels as evidenced by superior rankings in "U.S. News and World Reports" and similar publications.
In support of our faculty and students, we have assembled a team of experienced and innovative administrators who provide the framework for the best educational programming. I am proud of these dedicated professionals who provide effective and efficient guidance throughout our schools.
This community is blessed with parents who value a strong education and actively support our schools. PTOs work tirelessly in raising funds to supplement and enrich our academic and extracurricular offerings. During my tenure, parents have donated more than $1 million for countless school projects and programs. These funds enabled us to install a turf field with lighting, air condition classrooms, purchase new technology, provide enrichment assemblies, and so much more.
Knowing the caliber of our Board of Education, faculty, staff and administration, I am confident that Bernards Township School District will continue to flourish while serving the children of our community. Thank you for partnering with us in that mission.
Valerie A. Goger
