Drivers in northern Basking Ridge should watch out for a (big) furry critter on local streets. Here is a bear at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, in the vicinity of William Street and Beechwood Road.
The bear rummages around a wheel barrow, used for wood chips.

The bear apparently heads wherever his inclination leads in a neighborhood in northern Basking Ridge in the area of Beechwood Road and William Street.
The bear detects his photo is being taken by Beechwood Road resident Angelo Clerici — and gives a brief pose.

Angelo Clerici of Beechwood Road submitted another set of photos of a visiting bear who was in his neighborhood on Thursday morning — just about a year after last year's visit.

The bear was in the area of William Street and Beechwood Road at around 7:30 a.m. Among his stops was a little break to nose around a blue wheel barrow that Clerici said his neighbor uses for wood chips.

"The bear just walked by and heard the click of my camera shooting pictures and stopped and looked at me," Clerici said when submitted the photos. "Then I took another picture."

Just a few years ago, Basking Ridge was considered the very fringe of bear country in New Jersey — but maybe not any more.

One more reason to think twice about putting out trash the night before a scheduled collection day!
