It's Labor Day! Time for Annual Bike Races in Basking Ridge
Downtown will again turn into a bike racing course with events for everyone from kiddies to top cyclists.
The 21st annual Olde Mill Inn Tour of Basking Ridge will bring a bike racing event that's a Labor Day tradition in Benards Township, with races for everyone from top category 4 cyclists seeking a $500 purse to kids competing for medals (and in previous years, lollipops.)
The event again is being sponsored by the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, and is jointly being presented by the Liberty Cycle of Basking Ridge and the Bernards Township Parks and Recreation Department.
Races begin at 7:15 a.m. for the masters 55 plus category continuing through the final race category 5/citizens at 1:30 p.m.
Information on races is on bikereg.com. Registration now should be done on race day, with $10 added on to the regular fee, and a $10 discount for participating in two races.
There is no fee for children. Races for children ages 3 to 15 will begin at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. Bicycle sprints with training wheels will be held for girls and boys in ages 3 to 4 and 5 to 6 categories; and bicycle sprints in different categories for ages 3 to 11.
For children, all races will be a sprint, straight away style, with the exception of the 12-15 year old category, according to the recreation department.
The older cyclists will race one lap of the course. Balance bikes, tricycles, or push bikes are not permitted in the races.
