Driver Killed in Martinsville Road Head-On Crash
Two cars involved in crash between Mountain Road and The Pingry School.
One driver was killed Wednesday night in a two-car crash that closed Martinsville Road for hours Wednesday between Mountain Road and The Pingry School. Liberty Corner Fire Chief Marc Friedman later said the driver was a man.
Police were reported to still be at the scene at about 10:30 p.m., with the investigation and road closure expected to continue later into the night.
Liberty Corner's Second Assistant Chief Dave Carroll determined upon arrival that there had been a head-on collision, with three people injured, one significantly, according to the report in 1st Responder News, which was submitted by Friedman.
Friedman arrived at the accident scene on Wednesday and assumed command, with a Medevac helicopter placed on standby. The Liberty Corner First Aid Squad arrived with two ambulances, and a third was requested from the Basking Ridge First Aid Squad, according to the chief's information.
One patient was removed from one car, and one from the second car, but the driver of the second car was significantly entrapped, Friedman said in the report. The extrication was supervised by First Assistant Chief Pete Aprahamian.
It was ultimately determined by the Advanced Life Support team that the driver had died, and Medevac was canceled, according to the fire chief's report.
The fire company remained on the scene until 11 p.m., to provide lighting for investigating authorities. Rescue and fire engines had initially responded.
Township police said that the investigation is being handled by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. The Prosecutor's Office declined to release information on Thursday morning, pending a later release.
