Mavericks U-13 Soccer Starts Season With Win

Twelve-year-olds defeat Branchburg Warriors.

The Ridge Mavericks U-13 (under 13)  boys team, the Phoenix, trounced the Branchburg Warriors 4-1 in their opening game of the season, played at home on Sept. 19. In the first half, the Phoenix team dominated the ball, with multiple shots on goal by Josh Narsu and Devin Taylor. The team scored just shy of the end of the first half. With Austin Begg on the assist, Justin Dignan kicked the ball high, and over the head of the goalie.  The first half ended with a 1-0 score for the Mavericks.

The second half of the game started with Josh Narsu running down the field to score goal number two for the Phoenix team.  Following him was Justin Dignan, who came up from midfield on a breakaway to place the ball in the corner of the goal.  Mavericks dominated with a strong offense led by Ryan Madden, Ali Razak, Miguel Hernandez and Matthew Fields.  The team's strong defense held back Branchburg, allowing only one goal by the Warriors deep into the second half. The Mavericks strong goal tending by both Eric Boulter and Stephen Bradford throughout the game kept the opposition at bay.

The Mavericks' final goal came late in the second half. After a run by Josh Narsu, Devin Taylor picked up the ball, maneuvering past the Warriors to a clean shot past the goalie.

The boys all contributed with their energy and drive, and the execution of their skills collectively led to a well deserved win. This was a great season starter for the Mavericks Phoenix team!
