Menendez Camp Reacts to Romney's N.J. Visit
Senator's campaign calls challenger and Presidential hopeful 'out of touch' with state's middle class.
Robert Menendez's campaign has called his Republican challenger for U.S. Senate and the GOP hopeful for U.S. President "out of touch" with New Jersey's "hard-working middle class."
In a statement released Wednesday morning, hours before Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is scheduled to appear at a private fundraiser in Bernardsville for Menendez's challenger, State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, the incumbent's camp said the Republican duo do not understand the challenges facing New Jersey families.
“Mitt Romney coming to New Jersey to raise campaign cash for Joe Kyrillos makes perfect sense considering how ‘seriously conservative’ and out of touch they are with the challenges that hard-working middle class New Jersey families face every day,” Menendez's campaign manager, Michael Soliman, said.
“Romney and Kyrillos both want to go back to the old, failed ways of the past that created the economic squeeze facing middle class families."
While Vice President Joe Biden attended a Menendez fundraiser last month in Morris Township and former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear at one in June, Kyrillos' camp said they are "grateful" to have Romney's support.
The fundraiser, which is closed to the media, will be held at the home of Edward Deutsch, a managing partner of the law firm of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, and his wife in Bernardsville Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
They are expecting between 50 and 100 people as Kyrillos looks to unseat Menendez, who seeks his second full term and whose camp called his challenger and Romney "extremists."
"Bob Menendez has helped middle class families with their economic struggles by stopping credit card companies from excessive rate hikes and misleading consumers," Soliman said. "And Bob Menendez is standing-up against extremists like Romney and Kyrillos who would end the right to choose and turn back the clock on New Jersey’s women.”
