Moms Talk: When Tragedy Strikes Close to Home
The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is followed by two deaths that are on the minds of many in our community.
This week's planned topic for the Moms (and Dads) Talk Q&A was knocked off the page by an event Monday that has been on the minds of many township residents.
Two Basking Ridge residents who graduated from Ridge High School, Kevin Herron and Thomas Ekberg, were killed in a tragic car accident on Route 287 on Monday afternoon.
Certainly, all of our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of these two young men.
But for those of us who are parents, we also feel a tremor of fear just thinking about the young drivers, or drivers-to-be in our household.
One of the scariest moments of being a parent is handing over those car keys.
Fender benders (and a new driver who came home from getting his learners' permit and drove straight into my garage door) are a way of life for young (not necessarily brand-new) drivers in our crowded state. It's frightening even for adults to drive here.
Hence, we all know, as one person commented on the original accident story, that this tragedy could have happened in any of our families.
Do you have any memories you wish to share of these two young residents?
Please let us know if there is any way that community members can recognize these members of our community, or if there is any way to reach out to those affected.
