Pysanky: A Centuries-Old Tradition for Creating Easter Eggs

The Farmstead Art Center hosts a Pysanky workshop on traditional Ukranian method of decorating Easter Eggs.

The township's Farmstead Arts center last Saturday offered a workshop on Pysanky, an ancient Ukranian Tradition of decorating whole eggshells with geometric patterns and pictures using a wax-resistant method. The freehand designs are made using beeswax that is heated in a Kista, or stylus, and slowly applied to the eggshell.

The workshop was offered just in time for the Easter holiday by instructor Odarka Polanskyj Stockert of Millburn. Participants gained a hands-on experience in creating the colorful egg "masterpieces." Preregisteration was required, and all materials were included.

The Farmstead Arts has been offering monthly art workshops that are open to the public. For information, check online.
