Ridge Girls XC Wins Sectional Title

Defeat two-time defending MOC champs. Boys also have successful day, coming in third.

 

The Ridge High School girls cross country team took home the North 2, Group IV championship this past weekend at Warinanco Park, running a school course average record of 19:57.48.

The team was led by freshman Liz Newman, who finished in eighth place with a time of 19:48.02. However, the Red Devils won on the strength of its pack. The top five runners for the squad finished between eighth and 14th place. Caelainn Carney, Rachel Schaub and Sarah Spring finished 10-12, and finished within two seconds of one another.

The Ridge girls finished with 55 points, 17 better than two-time defending Meet of Champions winner Hillsborough, which was second.

The Ridge boys also had a succesful sectional race, finishing in third. The Red Devils came in with a total of 107 points, which was behind winner Westfield (46) and North Hunterdon (105).

Tyler Gibbons turned in the top time for Ridge, finishing in fourth place with a time of 16:18.90. James Murphy and Matt Lechleider finished in 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
