Ridge Yields Early Goal, Can't Recover Vs. Watchung Hills
Coming off a 1-0 win on Thursday, boy's soccer team falls by same score on Saturday
The Ridge High School boys soccer team fell to Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren on Saturday morning, losing 1-0.
In Short
After a first half with little chances, the Ridge offense got going in the second half and held the ball in the Warrior end for a majority of the half. However, a goal a few minutes in for Watchung was the decisive goal in a 1-0 loss for the Red Devils, as their record fell to 1-5-1.
Red Devil of the Game
Keiran McCarthy – The junior goalkeeper was solid between the pipes for Ridge, thwarting any Watchung chance that came at him after the start of the first half. At the end of the game, he was put up front to help out on offense, in hopes of the Red Devils getting the equalizer.
Other Key Performances
Evan Smith – The senior defender helped to shut down the Warriors attack for the last 75 minutes of the game. The Warriors had very few quality chances after the opening few minutes, giving the offense a chance to tie the game.
Coach’s Take
“Their play is pretty straight forward and direct. They’re physical. I was happy with how we were able to match that. Especially in the second half, we had the ball in their end for most of it. We just couldn’t finish. But their response was good.” - Assistant Coach Enzo Cozzi
