School Board Recognizes 2011-11 Forensics Team

Forensics Team, state champions for 10th year in a row, are honored at Monday Board of Education meeting.

Dozens of members of the 2010-11 Ridge High Forensics Team, which has racked up multiple wins, awards and honors in another championship season, crowded Monday night's Board of Education meeting to recieve public recognition for the team's achievements.

George Philipose, president of the team, which participates in debate and public speaking events, said that 14 members of the team just received an award for excellence for debate from the National Forensics League, at a forum held in Dallas. The 14 team member's accomplishments are representative of the team, he said.

David Yastremski, coach for the team, said the forensics team has 95 members for this year. Those members won multiple honors and took top spots at invitationals around the country since last year.

The Ridge Forensics Team, an interscholastic speech and debate team, captured its tenth consecutive State Championship team title this past spring at the 2011 New Jersey Forensic League Championships. The two-day event with 31 teams from around the state was held at Ridge High School, Yastremski said at that time.
