IN SHORT
The Red Devils started slowly at Hillsborough on Thursday, falling behind when Raiders junior midfielder Alyssa Giarrusso scored on a free kick 15 minutes into the game. The Raiders controlled the play for most of the first half. But then, with under one-minute remaining in the half. Red Devil senior midfielder Elise Romano managed to get free in front of the Raider goal and put a pass from sophomore Paige Anderson in the net for a 1-1 tie.
The late goal energized the visiting Red Devils, who were presented with a number of very good chances to score during the second half.
The Raiders seemed like they would take the lead again when junior forward Julie DiAlfonso broke behind the defense and put the ball into the net. The play, however, was called offsides and the goal disallowed.
Midway through the second overtime, Hillsborough's Alyssa Giarrusso was able to control the ball about 30-yards out from the Ridge goal and hit a booming kick that went just under the crossbar for the winning goal.
