St. James Men Chili & Chowder Event Sat. Night
Public invited to eat up at at annual St. James charity fundraiser in Basking Ridge, with chefs from Somerset Hills and beyond.
Those looking for a chance to enjoy several varieties of hearty chili and tasty chowder now have a good reason — St. James Men of Charity will host the organization's annual Chili & Chowder Cook-off for Charity at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the St. James school gymnasium off South Finley Avenue.
There are almost 30 entries into the cook off, including local restaurants, said Paul Mattiola, chairman of this year's event. Tickets will still be available for $40 at the door the night of the event, he said.
Admission price includes all food and drink. Babysitting will be offered on site for an additional $10 per family.
Proceeds from this event will benefit local acts of kindness and service performed by the Men of Charity of St James Church.
Homemade chilis and chowders will be made by individuals and local professionals. Cooks signed up so far are from Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Bridgwater, Bedminster and as far as Springtown, Pa., Mattiola said.
Attendees will have a chance to taste many versions of chili and chowder, and to vote for their favorites.
Cricket Hill Breweries, Fairfield, also will be on hand to serve microbrews for the event. Wine and soft drinks will be available, as well, and tricky tray is planned for the evening.
The Men of Charity, a ministry group of the St. James Church in Basking Ridge, are dedicated to performing acts of kindness and service inside and outside the St. James parish community.
