For some of us, one of our favorite childhood memories from Christmas is taking an annual tour of holiday decorations and lights in the neighborhood.

That tour may have been on foot, but many sections of Bernards Township aren't exactly good walking routes, especially at night. Plus, it's awful cold.

So just when local light displays are finally turned on in full force, we bring you an armchair (or computer desk chair) tour of some of the decorated homes in Basking Ridge and the edge of Liberty Corner.

Included are homes that are large and smaller, and north and south. We see plenty of lit deer (wonder what the real deer think of their decorative counterparts!) and a few living deer who showed up at a convenient moment to complete one scene just in time for the camera.

So enjoy, and perhaps in the next few days take a drive around town to see some of our native Christmas and holiday decorations while they're still around.

I'm honored to be one of the houses pictured. It's truly a never ending lesson in safety, simplicity, and beauty for me. The picture here is a few years old and boy have things evolved at our gingerbread home. I've already planned next year - and hope I can make a few people smile. Unfortunately a fence has made our neighbor a very spiteful, unfriendly man. I hope next year he'll see the lights and remember the true meaning of Christmas. Love, charity, faith. - Sue Love
