Warm Up at St. James Chili & Chowder Cook-off
Fourth annual dinner party and charity event scheduled for Jan. 28 at St. James Roman Catholic Church.
What better way to warm up on a cold winter's night than with chili, chowder and friends at the fourth annual St. James Men of Charity's fourth annual Chili and Chowder Cook-off for Charity?
Those who attend will be able to sample competiting entries for best chili and chowder at St. James Roman Catholic Church on South Finley Avenue, just south of Basking Ridge Center, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Jan. 28.
As of Tuesday evening, 18 chili and 12 chowder entrants had signed up, said organizer Chris McManemin. He said that number will probably grow to about 40 total entrants by the 28th.
Proceeds will benefit works of charity both inside and outside the parish community, along with the Cursillo Ministry Group, according to information from the Men of Charity.
The $35 tickets, for adults only, includes chilis, chowders, beverages, a wine or beer glass, a tricky tray and prizes, according to the event organizers.
The growing event will be moved from the chapel basement to the church gymnasium this year, the organizers said.
For tickets call either the parish office at 908-766-0888; John Burns at 908-647-2632; or Regina DePrima at 908-580-9894.
Checks should be made payable to "Saint James Men of Charity."
