Was Your Gift a Generator this Holiday Season? [POLL]
Even if it didn't fit under the tree, generators may have been a popular gift item in the Somerset Hills this year.
It may not look great under your Christmas tree, it probably can't be wrapped nicely, and it certainly isn't a stocking stuffer.
But an overheard conversation in Bernardsville on Thursday morning about two guys discussing their new generators arriving just in time for the holiday raises the question of whether there really is a better gift this year in the Somerset Hills.
While some households already had generators before then-Hurricane Sandy headed this way in late October, the actual arrival of the storm plunged Basking Ridge and Bernardsville into virtually 100 percent powerlessness. That's enough to encourage even hold-outs to think again.
And were you among the couple of hundred households in Bernards Township and Bernardsville who lost power again for a while on Wednesday night? Did that make you wish you had a generator, or happy you had one?
So did Dad really need another addition to his tool box or a shirt and tie? And maybe Mom thought she would prefer jewelry — but maybe indoor heat and some lights would be more appreciated on a dark and stormy night.
Tell us, in the poll and in the comments section below, whether a generator was a gift for your household after Sandy. Did it arrive with a bow? Did it count for all eight nights of Hanukkah presents?
