What Are You/Your Children Thankful For This Thanksgiving?

Do you and your family stop and think about what's worth being thankful for before you dig into a Thanksgiving meal?

On a Thanksgiving Day 15 years ago, I distinctly remember giving thanks for the safe arrival of my younger son earlier that year.

And, as anyone who has lived through one or more "risky" pregnancies can sympathize, I offered up a simultaneous prayer of thanks that I could metaphorically hang up the sign: "The Baby Factory is Closed."

Virtually all of us have something to be thankful for tomorrow, and most of us have many blessings.

What will you be thankful for — enough to eat, family members who are still healthy and with you or treats that make life special?

Will you express your thanks, or just think about what makes you grateful?

Many of our children in this area — oh, this sounds like nagging! — have no idea how much they have to be thankful for.

Do your children? Do you remind them (in a tactful way) on Thanksgiving?

As a reporter, I've sometimes covered meals prepared and/or served by volunteers for people who otherwise wouldn't have a place to go to eat or share a meal on Thanksgiving, or another holiday such as Christmas Day. Have you ever been involved in such a project? How did it make you feel? Do you think your children would find it meaningful to be involved in such an event?

Please let us know what you're thinking in the comments section below. And have a happy and healthful Thanksgiving Day!

If we can just pray upon our gratitude for simple abundance this year, that would be more than enough! Even the kids are understanding the true value in good health, togetherness, family unity and love in our hearts. It's been a long year and it's still November. We lost many family members for one reason or another, and by the time the 5th member had passed away, we became more understanding as to the divine purpose in the world and how we can't take anything or anyone for granted. For us, this Thanksgiving is all about being at the table together--nothing more and nothing less. Simply...."being" is what we are grateful for this year.
