What Should Move Into the Village Center?
What kind of business, eatery or service provider do you think would be best for a new occupant at the Highlands Village Center in The Hills?
When you think about it, there actually are a lot of different things to do at the Highlands Village Center off Allen Road in The Hills.
So what would you like to see move into the spot at the far end of the attached mall, in part of a location previously occupied by McGrath's Paint & Hardware? McGrath's moved into the Bedminster section of The Hills in 2010.
Right now, when you drive or walk to the Village Center, you can eat at a number of different restaurants, including Veneto Trattoria, Fresh restaurant, Chu's Cafe, and even grab a sandwich or another meal at Dunkin' Donuts.
After all that eating, you can buff up and work out at Get in Shape for Women. Then, you can get even more beautiful at Kaleidoscope Har and Body Artistry.
If you can use a Tylenol after all that activity — or vitamins or lots of other day-to-day items, there's always the Rite Aid. That Rite Aid has just started making preparations for a major renovation of the store's interior, to be conducted during night-time hours.
Have kids looking to learn? You can bring preschoolers to Tiny Turtle Academy. Or have older students work to boost their grades at Kumon Learning Center.
There's also a dentist, a dry cleaner, a chiropractor, a bank, a shop to buy wine. What more could anyone need?
In case you haven't forgotten, The Hills also has a post office. The U.S. Postal Service announced it would think about closing the PO off Allen Road, but then decided it will stay.
Well, what do you think should go into the remaining spot from McGrath's? Or perhaps some other spot that may open when there's a vacany at the shopping center.
Would you like to see someplace more upscale? Less upscale?
Do you want to have access to another restaurant? Or a food store?
A place to shop for kids? Or — forget the kids, they have enough hang-outs — a place to seek a haven with other adults?
Please tell us in the comments section below.

I would love to see either a Starbucks or Panera go in the McGrath space! Free wifi, a "book" (tablet), a cup of hot coffee and some smooth jazz in the background. Heaven...

I think a Trader Joe's in town would be great!

Nothing too large like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods -- we don't need the traffic! But a Starbucks or just a nice quiet coffee shop would be great. Although there is Fresh there, a deli would be a wonderful addition or a nice restaurant (maybe a burger place would be fun). Dairy Queen was such a fun place when it was opened -- would love an ice cream shop too!

Would love to see a community center or a club house for parents who live with us or visit us. Something with a library, a pool table, chess table, knitting centers, baking, eating, reading, cards, sudoku, crosswords etc. that can help interact with adults their age, it would also help them get to know other parents around the area. For the center to be up and running efficiently, they could charge a minimal fee.
With more stores coming into the Hills the traffic would increase that much and the charm of "The Hills" will be gone.

I am with Beth.. while a Traders Joes would be great.. I am pro "Not in our backyard"... I like our area quiet and with little traffic. I feel the same for a Panera.. . The Panera parking lot is nuts at lunch time. A small market where we can get fresh produce would be great.. A Dairy Queen would be great again... though the Gelato at Venetos is the best... dare I suggest Biagio's II (a sister store to the one in Stirling)! Bagel Shop? ... I suppose I am going with small but useful!

I guess with a Traders Joes and a Starbucks they would need that kind of traffic for them to survive the high rental place. The reason stores are moving out are coz of the high rent, wonder which business can actually afford this kinda rent.....Traders Joes or Wholefood could probably come in the A&P lot as that place is huge, I am sure they would do well if they come......

You forget to note the Hills Business Center right next to the Post Office, which opened last month - it does packing and shipping and sells a variety of office supplies.

Trader Joe's! I would hate to see a Panera come in and take business away from Fresh, which is a great little cafe. We have a Dunkin' Donuts, so who needs another coffee joint? A place to buy groceries, especially fresh produce, would be so convenient for Hills Highlands residents.
