What's Open in Basking Ridge-Somerset Hills Area?

Veneto's in The Hills is serving pizza.

As of late Thursday morning, the Kings Supermarket in Bernardsville was open and selling non-perishables.

The Rite-Aid in The Hills in Basking Ridge had been doing the same ever since Sandy — even without lights. Cash only was being accepted.

But a few doors down, Veneto Trattoria was a warm — and even lit! — spot as the pizzeria and Italian restaurant was running on generator power. Owner Joe DeMaio was even giving out free pizza on Tuesday night, the evening after Sandy made her rude arrival!

The A&P supermarket off King George Road also was reportedly selling non-perishables.

According to the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, the Kings in Bedminster off Hills Drive, at 908-719-4960 supposedly is open until 10 p.m. as the only store open in that shopping center.

Please let us know if you see any places in the area that are open again!

The fact that there's a gas station open not too far from Basking Ridge is the first good news I've heard since this thing started. Is that station's lines reliably shorter than their gas supply? FWIW, it doesn't do much good to have a lot of places to go if we can't be sure of getting gas when we're low.

In any case, it is a positive first step in the right direction. It makes me hope that JCP&L is finally starting to work inside its worst-affected township in the county (and not just on the edges)???

as of yesterday late afternoon the barons did not have power. I asked the police to drive over when I couldn't reach my mom. they headed right over and allowed my mom to use the officers phone. we sent a car to get them and now they are safe and sound with us in nyc.

I am happy for you and your parents. The neighbors were so wonderful to my dad who is 91. Making sure he had warm food and blankets but it got too cold. The VNA moved him temporarily to a nursing home. I would like to stay updated on this though as we can not reach anyone by phone. You are all in our prayers.

The Hills Village Center (with Kings supermarket) was nearly completely open for business on Monday — a welcome site! But Panera Bread at 100 Marketplace cut off wifi at 7 p.m. on Monday — after I had ordered dinner there. People were online everywhere when I arrived.
