On Saturday, Annie's Playhouse (www.anniesplayhouse.com), a performing arts school in Far Hills, put on a captivating "princess performance" for the toddler plus set.
Aptly titled, "Princess Meet and Greet," Disney Princesses Belle and Cinderella engaged about 40 children at the Bernardsville Public Library.
My daughter sat right in front of the room — she gently nudged another little girl out of the way to get the seat of her choice.
Princess Belle came out first and read the children a book, "Beauty and the Beast" of course. Belle does like her library books. Belle asked the kids questions to interact and my daughter's hand was always one of the first ones raised regardless of whether she knew the answer.
When the mistress of ceremonies asked the kids to raise their hands if they had heard of Annie's Playhouse, my daughter raised her hand. I have never spoken to her the school and hadn't actually heard of it before I signed up for the library program (their marketing worked).
Cinderella was then introduced and she did a ballet/point dance around the room. Cinderella then taught the children some ballet and asked for volunteers to dance with her.
After that, each child received a magic wand — to keep! Yes, to keep! And the two princesses did a "Bippity Boppity Boo" thing before arranging the kids in a circle where they asked them questions.
Finally, the kids lined up in a conga line, danced around the room before taking photos. The library set up princess books in the back of the room for the kids to enjoy.
The performance was well-worth every cent and my 3.5 year old endorses, too. (even if she is picking her dry lips in every photo I snapped).
Annie's Playhouse (www.anniesplayhouse.com) is the premier performing arts school in New Jersey featuring a varied curriculum of musical theatre, acting, singing, dancing and private study for students of all ages and skill levels.
