As moms, we will generally do anything to ensure the health of our children and even the health of a baby-in-utero as well. I am thankful that I never had to have a C Section, although I would not hesitate to do so if it were absolutely neccessary. But this is the clincher — it is not always neccessary and I was witness to a wonderful story that unfolded this past summer in our office.
A breech baby is not what a pregnant woman wants in the final weeks of her pregnancy. Sadly, most set about making plans for a scheduled delivery. But, very few people know that there are other options. One of those options is manual version. This technique is performed by an obstectrician in a hopsital under ultrasound. Reportedly, it is painful and a little scary. Another much lesser known technique is something a chiropractor can do and it is called the Webster Technique.
This technique was developed by Larry Webster, D.C., of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. A chiropractor reduces stress on the pregnant woman's pelvis leading to the relaxation of the uterus and surrounding ligaments. A more relaxed uterus makes it easier for a breech baby to turn naturally. Unlike manual version, it is not painful and it is very safe.
As mentioned earlier, I never had a breech baby, I was lucky. Yet, I chose to use chiropractic through out all four of my pregnancies for general health and well being. I was able to avoid back pain, swelling and was blessed with four easy deliveries. Chiropractic is a drug-free, safe and natural system of healthcare that is good for all, but of exceptional value to pregnant women who want an alternative to taking drugs for pain relief and find themselves in the unfortunate situation of having a breech baby. Thanks Fred. You are right, and I wish more pregnant women knew about the benefits of chiropractic during pregnancy. I am living proof that it is a good thing!
