Unsafe Intersection in Morning Traffic: Valley and Mount Airy Roads
Not sure if others have noticed it but starting recently the trafffic light pattern at the intersection of Valley Road and Mount Airy Road has been changed to flashing lights only.
To the best of my knowledge, flashing red light for Mount Airy and flashing yellow light for Valley. It is mindboggling at the heaviest traffic time of the day this pattern of traffic lighting is put in place.
Many school buses have to make turns at this time and I have witnessed near collisions between school buses and sedans because it is not easiy for people properly time when best to get into this potential trap of harm.
Whoever came up with this unwise arrangement should take a closer look before people get hurt.
Safety first, traffic flow pattern second. Think!

What about the intersection of Mount Airy and Canterbury way? When is the traffic light going yo be installed there? It has already been established as a high traffic area.

I have discussed the situation with an officer at the BR police station and he said he would forward the concern to the county office to look into it further.
Luci, my feeling is that they want Mt Airy to flow steadily into 78 thus the flashing lights and possibly the reason they don't want to add another light at Canterbury...

The helpful officer called back. Apparently there was or perhaps still is a "short in the system" that they are aware of, that the above mentioned intersection should not have flashing lights. I was told to report it again to the county office (908-231-7000). A heavy breathing dude at the traffic division took the info and said they would look into it...

The light seemed to be working properly this morning...
Another comment I will make is that the light at Mt. Airy and Lyons should have a left turn signal on the southbound side of the road. They have the left turn lane; why no signal?
