Although police were reporting no accidents as of 2:15 p.m., power outages were being reported on several streets, for hundreds of township residents, throughout the day. However, most of those power outages had been addressed as of about 5:15 p.m., according to Jersey Central Power & Light. At that time, JCP&L reported that 12 Basking Ridge customers remained without power, compared with a reported 466 as of 1:21 p.m. According to JCP&L, one customer in the Liberty Corner section of the township was without power, compared with 101 Liberty Corner customers earlier in the afternoon. The Bernards Township Library was closing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday due to the icy weather, according to library officials. Meanwhile, township fire official Janet Lake asked all Bernards Township residents to shovel a two-foot circle around the fire hydrant nearest their homes, including an opening in the snow in the front of the hydrant.
