A century of volunteer service was reason enough for the Liberty Corner Fire Co., to arrange Saturday's parade and a full-day birthday bash afterward at the firehouse on Church Street. It also was a good reason for Allen "Red" Stewart, who served as company chief in the mid-1950s, to come home from South Carolina and ride in the parade that began at 11 a.m. "I rode on a truck that I was on the purchasing committee to buy in 1957," said Stewart, who said he traveled 750 miles to be part of the 100th anniversary celebration. It's time to clean out the closets and garage and gather together donations for the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills' giant fall rummage sale—all the better to make room for bargains to bring home from the sale on Oct. 1-3. The collections of donations will begin this Saturday, Sept. 4, and  continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday through Saturday until Sept. 22, according to the Basking Ridge-based VNA. Donations will be collected at the Far Hills Fairgrounds at Route 202 and Peapack Road, which is also the location of the VNA's rummage sales each spring and fall.Those …
A pirate story, "The Curse of the Mutating Hand", filled the Township Library with laughter, "humming" and explosions. Andrew Piccirillo, the "Scienceteller," presented a story of pirate adventure mixed with science experiments including child participation.  Mr. Piccirillo's animated performance kept everyone's attention from start to finish.  Using the attendees as assistants, Piccirillo's experiments included floating a can of soda, making a cloud in a bottle and exploding a cap from a bottle with the help of a tesla coil.  
The graduating seniors of Ridge High School traveled to the campus of Rider University Thursday evening for an "all-nighter" with their classmates. Developed as a way to give graduates a last night all together, it provides a safe, fun environment it a single controlled setting. The BASH, as it was called, took over the alumni center at Rider.  Food, games and friends were on tap for the class. Activities included ping pong, pool, car racing, basketball, mini-golf, movies, magic and tattoo artists.
