Hosted by the Somerset Hills YMCA, the Ninth Annual Flag Day 5K Run will be held at the YMCA. This marks the ninth year the YMCA is donating the event proceeds to benefit homeless veterans receivinghousing and services at Community Hope's Hope for Veterans Program. Here in New Jersey, the Veterans Administration estimates that as many as 6,500 veterans sleep on the streets or in shelters on anygiven night. To restore the dignity our veterans deserve, Community Hope – a private nonprofit organization – operates Hope for Veterans, opened in 2004 as the largest transitional housing and rehabilitation program for homeless vets in NJ. For over 5 years, our award-winning program offers safe shelter, recovery services, job opportunities and the chance for these honorably-discharged veterans whohave served their country to rebuild their lives. More than 300 runners turned out for last year's run which raised more than $25,000 in support of homeless veterans. Opened in 2004 as the largesttransitional housing facility in the Tri-State area for homeless veterans, the new wing added 25 newbeds in 2007 and presently houses 95 former servicemen and women. Runner registration is $17; USATVMembers, $15; Day of Event $20.
