"Organic Foods: Are They Really Better?"

Dr. Joseph J. Murphy, former food research scientist and current Director of the Suburban Chiropractic Center in Chatham will present an inter-active course entitled, “Organic Foods: Are They Really Better?” for the Adult School of the Chathams, Madison, Basking Ridge and Florham Park.  The course is open to all area residents for a modest fee, and will be held at Ridge High School on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 7:00 PM.   

Dr. Murphy will be discussing such subjects as: What does the word “Organic” real...ly mean?  How is it regulated?  Is organic food more nutritious?  Is it worth the extra cost? What is “organic farming”? What is “natural food”?

Organic Food in all its facets will be discussed as well as how the word “Organic” applies to non-food items.  After the presentation there will be an extensive question and answer period where Dr. Murphy will answer all queries dealing with the subject

Ridge High School was one of three New Jersey high schools designated as a Blue Ribbon School in 2009 by the U.S. Department of Education for excellence in academic achievement.

Ridge High has 1,639 students and maintains a 14.4 student-to-teacher ratio. Fifty percent of students graduate with at least one passing grade in an Advanced Placement class according to a Newsweek report on the top schools in the U.S. Newsweek ranked Ridge as the 177th best school in the nation and third in New Jersey.

Ridge also has a wide variety of after-school sports programs and extracurricular activities—from a competitive football program to one of the state's best high school debate teams.
