Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation hosts Financial Literacy Workshops JP Stevens High School

On May 13 and May 22, 2014, Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation conducted financial literacy workshops for developmentally disabled students at J.P. Stevens High School located in Edison, NJ. The goal of the workshops was to teach students basic life skills they can use in their everyday lives.

The students spent the afternoon learning about budgets and saving money with Valerie Latham, Member Experience Officer, and Grant Gallagher, External Affairs and Financial Education Specialist Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation. In their future workshops, they plan to use role-playing techniques to help the students develop banking skills such as making deposits, using an ATM and debit card, as well as protecting themselves against identity theft.

"Watching the children interact with Valerie and Grant is so amazing. The students were so fascinated to learn about saving and budgeting," said Giuseppina Cetta, employee of Affinity Federal Credit Union. “It was also exciting that they remembered who I was! Not only are they getting to learn something extra, but we are all making new friends!"
