Chai Center for Jewish Life to Hold High Holiday Services

Chai Center for Jewish Life has announced that Rabbi Joshua Goldstein will be leading Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services this year at 775 Talamini Road, Bridgewater.  He will be joined by noted song leader, Steve Dropkin.

             On Thursday, September 5, Rosh Hashanah morning services will begin at 10:30 am.  Kol Nidre services will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 13.   The following morning, September 14, Yom Kippur services will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will include a Yizkor service.  In addition to the holiday services, a Tashlich ceremony, followed by a Kabbalat Shabbat service, is planned for Friday, September 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Watchung Lake gazebo

            Tickets good for all three services will cost $ 100.00 for Chai Center members and their families, and $150.00 for non-members.  Children under 18 are free but must be preregistered.  A downloadable form for purchasing tickets can be found on the website, www.chaicenternj.org

Rabbi Joshua Goldstein recently retired after serving 30 years as the beloved senior rabbi of Temple Sha'arey Shalom in Springfield, NJ.  Selections of his articles and sermons have been published under the titles: "Standing on the Shoulders" and "Jewish Passions, Realities, and Visions."   Active in many local and national organizations, Rabbi Goldstein has held positions on the Rabbinic Cabinet of the Association of Reform Zionists of America (ARZA), on the Rabbinic Advisory Committee of Camp Harlam, and on the Board of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).           

Actively involved in Jewish music for over 30 years, Steve Dropkin is regarded as a major composer of contemporary Jewish music and liturgy.  He has been a guest lecturer at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music in New York for more than 10 years and has served as a panelist at the American Conference of Cantors National Convention.  Many of his songs are considered standards in synagogues, religious schools, and Jewish summer camps.

Chai Center is a chavurah, a group of friends which has formed a community  to provide an affordable center for multi-generational learning, celebration, and worship.
