Bernards Dems to Discuss 'Gun Violence and Children's Safety'

Public Invited to panel discussion at Bernards Township Library.

In the aftermath of the tragic school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, the Bernards Township Democratic Committee has announced that the group will host a panel discussion on "Gun Violence and Children’s Safety" at the Bernards Township Library.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. nexto Monday, Feb. 11, at the library, 32 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.

The event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.

"A serious dialogue about gun safety is taking place across the nation as we struggle to cope with the seemingly endless string of mass shootings in the United States," the announcement said.

The Democratic Committee's announcement said the panel discussion is an "effort to better educate ourselves and our neighbors."

The event will include community leaders focusing on recently proposed gun safety legislation, the pros and cons of new regulations, and also sharing strategies on how to effect change at the local, state, and federal levels.

The event will include an audio-visual presentation followed by a panel discussion. All are welcome and we encourage those from both sides of the issue to come share your thoughts and concerns with us for a friendly and enlightening discussion.

"We all have the same goal: assuring the safety of our children and families," the announcement said. "The time has come to decide how to best carry out that important mission."

Light food and refreshments will be served.

Those who want to attend, or who would like more information, or would like to be included on the Bernards Township Democratic Committee's email list are asked to RSVP to David Ferdinand at popcornandpolitics@gmail.com
