NJ Audubon’s Second Annual May Day

Get Your Family Outside For NJ Audubon’s Second Annual May Day!

This free, fun-filled family festival will include activities for all ages: presentations by expert naturalists, children’s treasure hunt, crafts, face painting, animals-animals-animals, live music, healthy food, amazing fundraising silent auction and more! Admission is FREE!

BERNARDSVILLE, April 8, 2011 — Come join the festivities on Saturday May 7, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville. As we celebrate Earth Day and the return of warmer weather this spring, it is the perfect time to get the whole family out into nature. May Day will feature fun and educational opportunities on the trails of our 276 acre Sanctuary and inside of our nature center. Children may meet a frog at our vernal pond or spot a raptor while visiting the observation deck.

Live music will be performed throughout the day, featuring NJ Folk Project’s Circle Round the Sun, The Fabulous Furry Harmonica Brothers, Kathy Moser, and Tom Picard. Along with her music, Kathy Moser’s project “Neutral’s Not Enough” will be on hand, offering free CDs to everyone who brings 3 or more adults in one car to May Day, reducing their carbon impact on the world! Eco-Man will give an interactive musical performance for children teaching them about ecology and the environment.

Retired NJ Audubon VP of Education, Pat Kane, will share her incomparable story-telling talents with the children and families attending May Day. Her stories are full of beautiful and creative images of the natural world and will delight children of all ages. Various local environmental organizations will be present to educate the public about their many green initiatives, and the children’s tent will be buzzing with nature related crafts.

Be sure to visit the beautiful Nature Store, grab a bite to eat, and walk through the gallery where nature photographer, Isobel Wayrick, displays her breathtaking exhibit featuring tree frogs, polar bears, albatross, and more!

Local New Jersey natural history author, Gordon Thomas Ward, will return again this year to lead visitors on his popular "Hike through History" within the sanctuary and the neighboring Cross Estate. The hike will pass through fields, wooded hills, and scented gardens and remind participants of the rich history of the region.

Place your bids at our Sanctuary Fundraiser Silent Auction where hundreds of items and baskets for everyone’s taste will be showcased!
