EVENTS: Expected Snow Puts Off Marching Band Competition

Patch will keep you updated on other events as we hear of possible reschedulings.

Halloween comes but once a year, but there's many different ways to celebrate it through this weekend — at activities for kids and adults throughout our area.

However, predicted snow and/or cold rain on Saturday has canceled — for now — the Ridge Marching Band Competition planned for Saturday afternoon and night, according to the school district website. Attempts will be made to reschedule the event, and later plans will be announced, the website says.

Patch will keep you updated on other cancellations due to weather. The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of snow before 8 a.m. here on Saturday, then rain and snow with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is predicted at 100 percent, with snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible, the Weather Service says.

The annual Safe Trick or Treat event is scheduled at around lunchtime on Saturday in downtown Basking Ridge. That event will go on rain, snow or shine, said Al LiCata, executive director of the Bernards Township Chamber of Commerce, which arranges the annual event.

The Bernards Township Recreation Department has many fun activities scheduled immediately following at 1 p.m. at the Oak Street School field on Henry Street. Events include pumpkin-rolling races, crafts and other ghoulish activities. The Bernards Township Library, around the corner on South Maple Ave., has Halloween activities in the afternoon as well, with Halloween crafts for all ages immediately following the Safe Trick or Treat event.
