Condo Complex May Modify Lawn Chemical Use

It's a concern for many residents in multi-family housing units in the township. Residents who opposed the use of certain lawn chemicals at Society Hill Bernards II have at least persuaded the homeowners' board to revisit its policies for use of pesticides, weed killers and fertilizers, one board member said. The board is moving in moving in the direction of more limited use, or possibly using some different products, said Tom Stiff, the board's treasurer.

Another Burglary in House Where Resident is Away

It's not something homeowner's like to think of when planning summer jaunts. A home on Mine Brook Road left unattended for a few days before July 4 apparently was burglarized during that time, and jewelry taken. Police said that the "m.o." (modus operandi) was similar to some other burglaries this spring of homes where the owner was away. Similar burglaries took place during the same few days in neighboring Warren Township.

Township Road Construction Projects Starting, Will Last Through Summer

Drivers through township may already have seen evidence that the township has begun its annual program to repair, resurface or in some cases totally overhaul local roads, or sections of them. The work should continue through summer, so expect some delays or possibly detours. The projects are funded from the township budget or other sources, such as grants.

Basking Ridge Firefighters Battle Super-heated Fire on Salvation Army Van

It was bad enough that the fire in a Salvation Army van on Route 287 North was burning under insulation on a stove that was part of the van's equipment for disaster relief response — the van also was loaded with propane tanks. Traffic was halted for a while on a very hot day last weekend while emergency workers unloaded the propane, while at the same time battling to bring the fire onboard under control.
