PEC To Host 'Run With Me 5K' This Sunday

Bernards Parents for Exceptional Children (PEC), a not-for-profit organization that advocates for children with learning and developmental disabilities and their families, is hosting a Run with Me 5K race and health walk on Sunday, May 18th at Mountain Park in Basking Ridge, NJ.

The Run with Me 5K celebrates the spirit of our mentor and sensitivity programs.  Its purpose is to promote and raise funds for these two programs, while encouraging acceptance of others.

Over the past six years, close to three thousand children in the Bernards schools have experienced our sensitivity training.  During the workshop, 3rd and 6th grade students get a “hands on” feel for what it is to have a disability.

They “experience” physical disabilities, dyslexia, fine and gross motor deficiencies, within the theme of embracing those who may learn or act differently than they do.

The PEC mentor program allows students in grades 5-highschool to work one on one with special needs students at recreational and sporting programs.  Both the mentor program and sensitivity workshop have been possible due to the generosity of PEC supporters and contributions of our sponsors who lend financial support.
