'Real Men Cookout' Invites All Local Men

Invitation to event also is opportunity to showcase new group for men who believe in meeting responsibilities.

“Real Men, Real Early,” a recently formed men’s group meeting at invites all men of the community to a cookout on Thursday, May 17, from 6 to 9 p.m at Harry Dunham Park, for an evening that will offer food for thought as well as grilling.

The cookout is an opportunity for men to relax, have fun and support each other in the joys and struggles of work life and fatherhood, said Andy Stewart, an organizer of the event and the group.

A savory barbeque dinner will be provided. Following the meal, the group will view and discuss the movie “Courageous,” which Stewart said discusses the themes of men taking responsibilities for their families, their wives and children and their roles in life.

The group, started about two months ago, is so named because the members wanted to emphasize that real men do meet those responsibilities, Stewart said.

About 20 men from Bernards Township — as well as some from Bernardsville, Warren and Bridgewater — have been meeting "real early," at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays at the church, so as not to take time from their jobs or families, Stewart said.

However, he said that the group also is working on setting up a meeting time at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Although the meeting place is at the church, the group is open to all men in the community, he said.

The cookout is open to adult men, Stewart said. But he added he hopes some of those men will bring their sons to expose them to the same philosophy.

Those who wish to attend the cookout should register at www.libertycorner.org by Tuesday, May 15, according to a news release.  A suggested donation of $10 is payable at the event.

The movie will be shown at the pavilion at the township's Harry Dunham Park, located at Somerville Road and Church Street in the Liberty Corner section. Stewart said the group will bring its own grill for outdoor cooking.
