Eastbound NJ Trains Suspended, Westbound Delayed, Roads Closed After Heavy Rains

Flooding disrupts transportation, roads; Whitenack Road reopens

New Jersey Transit was Bernards Township and Bedminster Township police report some road closures in those towns following Thursday's heavy rains.

New Jersey Transit twittered shortly before 3 p.m.: as of 4 p.m. all eastbound Gladstone Branch service is suspended between Bernardsville and Summit for the remainder of today. Delays were said to be in effect even beforehand.

Westbound trains delayed

According to information twittered by NJ.Transit shortly before 4 p.m. westbound trains, Summit to Bernardsville, were subject to up to 45-minute delays. Shuttle buses only were to operate westbound from Bernardsville, according to NJ.Transit.

Whitenack Road in Bernards Township, earlier closed for flooding, was reopened as of about 3 p.m. said Lt. Mike Shimsky.

Over in Bedminster, Peapack and Old Dutch roads are closed as of that time, as well as a significant portion of Black River Road, said Bedminster Police Chief William Ussery.

All of the road closures are due to flooding.

UPDATE: Ussery reported shortly before 1 p.m. that Lamington Road into Hunterdon County had become impassible at Rattlesnake Bridge near the county line.
