Section of S. Maple Ave. Still Closed, Library Open

Detour in place while new water main installed.

A portion of South Maple Avenue, in the area of the Bernards Township Library, remains closed for daytime construction work, and the closure with a detour is expected to continue until at least Friday, Bernards Township police said.

However, the Bernards Township Library at 32 S. Maple Ave. is open as usual.

Beginning the last week in October, a portion of South Maple Avenue was closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to allow a new water main to be installed, Bernards Township police said at that time.

The portion of roadway closed is between East Oak Street and Collyer Lane. A detour has been set up to redirect traffic from South Maple Avenue onto South Finley Avenue.

The detour would be in effect Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks, according to township police.

Meanwhile, the library is reminding patrons that the building and parking lot are open, with usual programs, during construction.

Those arriving from East Oak Street/North Maple Avenue should be able to access the entrance to the upper level parking lot just beyond the road closure sign. If not, library patrons can loop around to the lower lot by going down East Oak Street, turning right on Homeland Avenue and then right again on Lindbergh Lane, according to the library.
