UPDATED: Snow May Be Gone But It's Not Too Late to Enter Celebrity Snowman Competition

Winner's photo will be posted in recreation department's e-newsletter.

Is the snow really over? Now that the winter of 2010-11 is a fond memory, the township Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for photos—of your snowmen (or, perhaps in some cases, snow-women).

There's only one requirement—that your snowperson look like a famous character.

The March 31 deadline is nearing for the township's Celebrity Snowman Competition. The township is collecting photos of a snowman built in town that resembles a celebrity.

The winner's photographs will be posted in the township's weekly e-newsletter, The Rec Rundown.

Photos should be sent with the full family name of the entrant(s), age(s), address, phone number and the date and place that the snow character was built.

The photos must be mailed or delivered by March 31 at 4:30 p.m., to the Bernards Township Recreation Department, Snowman Photo Contest, at 1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge, 07920.

UPDATED: Entries also may be emailed to the township recreation department. Along with the picture(s), all the requested information should be included in the email, according to the recreation department.

Entrants will have stiff competition from a snow sculpture of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants, submitted in January to the Basking Ridge Patch. The snow artist, third grader Kaitlyn Orr, had produced SpongeBob knowing she would enter the township's contest, said her father, Kevin Orr.

SpongeBob's yellow color was produced with a special "snow paint" Kaitlyn earlier had received as a gift, her father said.
