Spring is in the Air: Fishing Derby Among Events on Tap

Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church also hosts fashion and talent show.

Art or nature, indoors or outside, springtime events are plentiful this coming Saturday.

Rain or shine, the Bernards Township annual fishing derby will start at 9:30 a.m. at Southard Park.  Each year, the Department of Parks and Recreation hosts this early spring event, stocking the pond with trout and offering prizes for the largest fish caught. All residents are invited and fishing licenses are not required.

For something a little more fashionable and certainly less fishy, the Good News Home for Women is hosting “Moving Forward,” a fashion and talent show fundraiser at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. The event is open to the public and the proceeds will support a home for women in Flemington dedicated to helping them overcome alcohol and drug addictions.

A new springtime event being offered by the Environmental Education Center is also on tap for Saturday. The “Learn to Compost” program will take you through the steps of converting food scraps into useable compost for your garden. The whole family can get involved and the program is free.

For a pre-Easter activity, the Farmstead Arts Center is hosting the Pysanky Egg Workshop. Pysanky is an ancient art form where wax is used in combination with dyes to create beautifully designed Easter eggs. Registration closes on April 4 so there is still time to sign up.
