Summer Road Work and Pool Activities Coming This Week

Hot weather makes pool activities sound like a lot more fun than performing road work.

It's going to be a hot week — a great time for upcoming pool activities and other recreational activities in Bernards Township parks.

And the week starts off with a "subway series" of sorts, with the Bernards Township Pleasant Valley Pool Swim team scheduled to face off against the Bernardsville swim team on Monday at 5:15 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Pool off Valley Road in Basking Road.

Swim teams at area pools hold competitions throughout the season until a final Meet of Champions later in the summer that brings together many local swim teams with multiple age groups.

Meanwhile, the township Parks and Recreation department's second summer concert, with Funkathon 11, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Park.

Other recreational events and entertainment coming up this week include:

Students are able to try the Coakley-Russo Memorial Golf Course all day on Tuesday for the cost of a guest fee.

Family night at the pool will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, for Pleasant Valley Pool members only.

The parks department is scheduled to present another free outdoor movie, Madagascar 3, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Harry Dunham Park off Somerville Road in Liberty Corner.

The movie will follow Bernards Township's annual Family Fun Night, to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Harry Dunham Park, with games, a DJ and other activities. Rain date is Thursday, July 18.

Spamalot continues through this weekend

Meanwhile, another three performances of the Monty Python musical comedy "Spamalot," as staged by Basking Ridge-based Trilogy Repertory Co., are scheduled to be held next at 8 p.m. next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the outdoor amphitheater at Pleasant Valley Park off Valley Road. The shows are free, but donations are appreciated.

Weather in the 90s certainly will heat up the day for road crews beginning curbing, storm, storm drains and other first-phase road work that launches this year's $943,000 in improvements for a dozen roads in the Township. Work will start on streets in The Hills development, Township Engineer Tom Timko said last week.

The initial work will be followed by milling and paving of streets, according to a memo from the engineering department. Mark Paving will do the work, according to the township.
