Vigils for CT Families Set by Heartworks, St. Mark's Church

Heartworks, a Somerset Hills-based philanthropic group, and two Bernards Township churches, have scheduled prayer vigils for the victims, both children and adults, killed in last Friday's shooting in Newtown, Ct.

Heartworks, a non-profit "Acts of Kindness" group that is based in Basking Ridge and Bernardsville, has moved its vigil to Wednesday night so as not to interfere with Monday's vigil at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Basking Ridge.

Heartworks invites the public to a Family Candle Light Vigil for Newtown scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Heartworks Lawn, 19 Route 202, in Basking Ridge.
 
The ceremony will be brief and there will be an opportunity  to sign a poster that will be hung up near Sandy Hook School next week, said the website. "Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors," the website said.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 140 S. Finley Ave. in Basking Ridge has scheduled a prayer vigil between 3 to 7 p.m. for On Monday for all the victims and survivors of the massacre at Sandy Hook School, the church said in a message sent out to its parishioners.

Vigil open to all, regardless of religious tradition

"The church will be open for the people in our community, regardless of their religious tradition, to come together and pray," said the message sent out at St. Mark's.
 
The church will be silent during the vigil, though at every half-hour interval the gathered community will be led in prayer for the victims, by name, according to the message.
 
Rev. Rick Morley of St. Mark's said there had been many requests from the community for such a vigil.

at 45 Church St. in Liberty Corner Village, held a family prayer vigil at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning in the church sanctuary. "We want to lift those families up that have been directly affected and to pray for the Newtown community," said a message from the church to parishioners.
 
"All of us have been touched by horrific tragedy that took place in Newtown, Ct. last Friday," the message said. "A senseless, unexplainable act by one individual has changed the lives of so many people."
